In August of 2005, I retired from the University of Arizona after 28 years. I now spend my time consulting and conducting research on learning space design, educational gaming, and implementing 21st century skills.

At the University, I was one of three Senior Consultants in the Learning Technologies Center where I developed and coordinated faculty enrichment activities. Previous to this position, I was the Director of the Digital Media Resource Center within the Integrated Learning Center (2.5 years) and the Director of Humanities Computing and Technology in the College of Humanities (lots of years). I have also had the pleasure of being an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Educational Psychology (since 1999) and Educational Leadership (1996).

My family moved to Tucson in 1968 and I've been here ever since.

I live in northwest Tucson with my wife, Ingrid Novodvorsky, and our four cats (more about them in a minute). Ingrid, or Dr. N to her students, taught at Mountain View High School in the Marana District for 11 years. In 2000, she joined the faculty in the College of Science (specifically the Physics Department) to begin working with the science teacher preparation program. She works with other faculty on supporting the preparation of future science teachers and to do science education research. She now serves as Senior Scientist and Director of the Science Teacher Preparation Program.

Ingrid and I do not have kids (a conscious choice) although we are able to "share" looking after three fine children of our friends, the Maddens and one of our friends the Evans. Instead we share our household with four cats. While I helped in the naming, Ingrid made the final selections. Therefore, we have Momentum, Quark, Electra, and Neutrino (See a pattern there?).

In addition to our current "children", Maxwell, Brandy, Inertia, and Ruffles have shared our home. Brandy was rescued from the Student Union at the University and Inertia was a stray we picked up with Maxwell when Ingrid couldn't decide which one to take and I said "Well, take two, they're small." Ruffles, a pure bred Maine Coon was "Ingrid's cat" while Inertia was my cat. Inertia lived with me for one year while I was finishing my Ph.D. and Ingrid was working in New Mexico. Inertia was never the same after that experience. Ingrid and Ruffles would travel to cat shows in Arizona and New Mexico.

The rest of our household are purebred Maine Coon cats. Ruffles was our first show cat (we don't show anymore) and Momentum is from one of my Mother's litters. Mo was our experiment in breeding purebred cats. She gave birth to a litter of five. We were supposed to place them all and perhaps keep one. We kept three and decided if this kept up we'd need a bigger house so we decided not to breed cats anymore.
